about

I'd like to say that I'm not obsessive,
That disappointment doesn't cut me to shreds,
But I'd be lying if I said I was passive,
About all the things that I like best.

But I can't control it,
No matter how hard I try,
If I could disengage my brain,
Then I could lead a carefree life.

And I could go around and say I don't over-think things,
That I don't really pay much thought at all,
That I'm happiest when I have been forgotten,
But the people who know me would see through it all.

And it's kind of tragic,
To think that if I could name one flaw,
I'm needy, dependent, self-conscious,
But then that's nearly four.

I could name more,
But what's the point?
It won't solve anything,
Won't fill the void,
So, I've made a choice,
To focus on,
To focus on anything,
But my thoughts on where I'm going and who with.

I could go back and play it safe again,
Re-open all the doors that I'd filled in,
Let history repeat itself on (a) loop,
And I'll go back to what I once knew.
